What makes an effective ad?

Big Idea:  Making the final media piece (aka web or television commercial) in support or your candidate or a hit piece of on your opponent.

Instructions:
1.  Review the Assessment Rubric (same one we went over in the last lesson)
2.  Decide if it an ad in support or a hit piece.
3.  Fill in the Storyboard Template
4.  Film

*The ad should be no longer than 4 minutes (the longest ad we saw) and include everybody in the group in the process of making the ad.
5.  We do not have access to iMovie for this lesson--that means no editing.

Roles:
Facilitator:  Make sure folks are all involved and focused on the goal, check for understanding (particularly regarding comparing and contrasting the profile mailer, the robocall and the ad)

Harmonizer:  Make sure your group gets consensus

Resource Manager:  Make sure your group pays attention to the details of what is being said and all the visuals being shown in the commercial, including unintended ones

Reporter:  Prepare the introduction for the ad prior to the class watching it

Rule of 3:
  • Address one part of your choice on the rubric proficiently
  • Address a second part of the rubric proficiently
  • Follow the roles as a group
Questions:

How much time do you have?  In a perfect world, I would like to give you 30-35 minutes to film and then the rest of the time to show your work.

See me for additional questions.
